Location: Kalmora Spa, Spa House, Winchet Hill, Goudhurst, Kent TN17 1JY. 01580 212953. www.kalmoraspa.com

Facilities: Based in the beautiful Kent countryside – aptly known as the ‘Garden of England’ – Kalmora Spa is the perfect retreat for those seeking some indulgent ‘me time’. The spa might resemble a small warehouse from the outside, but step inside and you will discover a peaceful, relaxing retreat that quickly eases body and mind. No need to bring a swimming costume, as there’s no pool, jacuzzi or steam room here – this spa experience is all about booking back-to-back treatments to revive, beautify and pamper in one fell swoop. For those seeking something a bit different, the spa offers Dead Sea Flotation – said to be as relaxing as a night’s sleep – and a stress-relieving, low-UV Aquasun Experience. The treatment rooms are spacious and ultra-comfortable – with therapists making use of a selection of luxurious, mineral spa products. Healthy lunch options are available in the modern reception area, making Kalmora Spa the ideal choice for a full-day retreat.

Ambience: You’ll be hard pushed finding a spa that is more peaceful than Kalmora Spa. Lying on the treatment beds, you will hear nothing but the sound of birdsong – there’s no need for pre-recorded soundtracks here! Whilst the views aren’t visible from the spa itself, the knowledge that you are based in the countryside, miles away from the big smoke, is incredibly relaxing. Staff are friendly, down to earth and eager to help.

Treatments Tested: Spa Find Essential Elements Prescriptive Facial, from £29 for 60 minutes. This bespoke, prescriptive facial began with a thorough skin assessment, before the therapist picked out products that would suit my skin type. After cleansing, toning, exfoliating, and massaging my skin, she applied a cooling gel mask, which began to set almost instantly. After leaving me to relax, the mask was removed in one quick movement, before moisturiser and eye cream was applied to hydrate my skin. A full week later and my complexion is still looking fresh, even-toned, and far younger. I am very impressed!

Spa Find Infinite Indulgence Black Mud Envelopment, from £46 for 75 minutes. This pampering treatment started with a full body exfoliation to slough away dead skin cells and rough patches, before a thick, sticky application of Dead Sea Mud was applied to my whole body. I was then wrapped in a plastic sheet and blanket, and then treated to a heavenly scalp massage. I was left to relax for a few minutes, to allow the mud to work its magic, before being unwrapped and pointed in the direction of the shower, where I spent at least 15 minutes trying to wash the gloopy mud off my skin! Eventually clean, I emerged from the bathroom and hopped back onto the bed, where the treatment concluded with an application of rich body cream. My skin has never felt softer!
